The Assumption of Mary – Why It Matters Today

"What if I told you there’s a story about a young woman whose courage, kindness, and trust in something bigger than herself still inspires millions of people today?"

On 15 August, Christians celebrate the Assumption of Mary, the belief that,  at the end of her life, Mary was taken body and soul into heaven. Even if you’re not Catholic, this day is about something we can all relate to: hope, dignity, and the power of living with courage and compassion.

Mary’s life wasn’t easy, she faced uncertainty and challenges, but she trusted in God and cared deeply for others. That’s something we can bring into our own lives, whether it’s being kind in the eating areas, standing up for someone who needs support, or finding strength when things get tough.

The Assumption is a reminder that our lives matter and that love and goodness have the final word. Every small act of kindness or forgiveness plants a little bit of heaven here on earth.

So today, let’s take inspiration from Mary, and live in a way that leaves the world a little kinder, braver, and more hopeful than we found it.

Let us pray:

As we reflect on the Assumption of Mary, we remember her unwavering faith, her humility, and her unconditional love for Your Son. May our lives always be guided by Mary’s example and devotion to You.

Amen.

God Bless,

Lesley Fraser – Assistant Principal (Mission)

Subject Selections for 2026 in Years 8, 9 and 10 - Information Sessions

We warmly invite parents and students currently in Years 7, 8, and 9 to attend our Information Sessions on 26 August at Holy Spirit College, where we’ll discuss Subject Selections for Years 8, 9, and 10 in 2026. These sessions are designed to help you explore the subject options available, giving every student the knowledge and confidence to make informed choices that will open up a variety of future opportunities.

During the event, each student will receive a Subject Selection pack containing their personalised form. We’ll also be sharing valuable advice on subject choices, explaining how parents can best support their students, and highlighting the many support options available from the College. A key focus will be on how our feedback on assessments can guide students in their goal setting, and how parents can engage with their child’s learning journey.

Two session times are available—3:30 pm and 6:00 pm. Each 30-minute session offers a glimpse into what 2026 will hold and a chance for students attending to win Spirit Café vouchers valued at $50, $30, and $20, drawn at both sessions.

Your support is vital as we work together to help your child become the very best version of themselves and achieve their goals. We look forward to seeing you there and partnering with you in this important step forward.

In one spirit, we nurture, we excel!
